Discover Program - Your Entrepreneurial Journey Starts Here

Thinking about becoming your own boss or exploring entrepreneurship as a career option?

The ETP Discover Program is a free, non-academic certificate program designed for Memorial University students from all disciplines—no business background required.

By joining ETP Discover this Fall, you will:

  • Explore entrepreneurship as an alternative career pathway.
  • Learn the fundamentals of starting and growing a business in Newfoundland and Labrador.
  • Build practical entrepreneurial and professional skills.
  • Expand your network through mentors, guest speakers, and fellow graduate students.
  • Earn a Certificate of Completion.
  • Strengthen your rĂ©sumĂ© and your .
  • Have your participation added to Memorial’s Online Record of Experience (MORE).

What you'll learn

The program introduces the essentials of entrepreneurship, including:

  • Idea generation and the Lean Canvas
  • Market research and customer interviews
  • Skills identification and team building
  • Working with mentors and advisors
  • Business structures
  • Business planning and financing
  • Resources and supports available in Newfoundland and Labrador

Program format

The program includes three components:

      1. Online workshop modules (asynchronous)

  • Eight self-paced modules delivered through Brightspace.
  • New module released every Tuesday from October 6 to November 24, 2026.
  • Complete each module during the week or finish all modules by November 29, 2026

      2. Special Topic Sessions (interactive)

  • Eight sessions led by guest speakers—recognized experts and practitioners in their respective fields
  • Thursdays, beginning October 8, 2026, from either 12:00–1:00 p.m. or 1:00–2:00 p.m. (final time to be confirmed based on venue availability).
  • In person for St. John's campus students and online for Marine Institute, Grenfell, and Labrador campuses.
  • Hands-on activities, discussions, and guest speakers that bring the online learning to life. 

      3. Optional mentoring and business support

  • Receive one-on-one or group guidance to develop your business ideas
  • Connect and refer ETP students with entrepreneurs and resources across Newfoundland and Labrador.

Online option

Students at the Marine Institute, Grenfell, and Labrador campuses can complete the program entirely online.

Flexible attendance

If you cannot attend the live Special Topic Sessions because of recurring class conflicts or family/childcare responsibilities, you may apply for the program's flexible attendance policy by contacting Dr. Hanh Do at dtmaihanh@mun.ca. Approved students can watch the recorded sessions on Brightspace.
