About

Social accountability is the Faculty of Medicine’s commitment to work in partnership with communities to improve health and well-being through education, research, clinical care, advocacy, and service. It means being responsive to the evolving health needs and priorities of the people and communities we serve, while advancing health equity, social justice, and meaningful systems change.

At the Faculty of Medicine, social accountability is not a standalone initiative - it is a responsibility embedded across all areas of our work.
We strive to foster respectful partnerships, prepare learners for equity-oriented practice, support community-engaged scholarship, and contribute to a more responsive and inclusive health system.

The Four Pillars

The Faculty of Medicine’s approach to social accountability rests on four pillars:

  • Commitment to equity, diversity and justice
  • Authentic partnerships and community engagement
  • Responsive and reflexive learning, service and research environments
  • Sustainability and cost effectiveness
